Optel's innovative developments have resulted in the granting of several US and World patents for applications in the field of biometrics. Through its early years, Optel's efforts were focused almost exclusively on their biometric finger-scanning project. However, over the last almost twenty years, Optel worked on a number of other innovative products for non-destructive testing, measurement systems for industrial, laboratory purposes or medical diagnostics, support of technological processes, contact less measurement of vibration, distance, geometry and size and more.

Research at OPTEL is carried out across a number of different channels, acting alone or in partnership with industrial partners and other research and technology organizations, academic institutions and enterprises.
